Host Your Own Event

The original Share A Story Day was held in a Primary School in West London. If you are interested in hosting your own event you might find the guide below helpful.
You could host an event anywhere; in your office, at your gym, at brownies or even in your street!

A step-by-step guide to hosting a Share A Story event

Spread the word

Ensure others know about your event so that they remember to bring books and donations. At my school we sent all of the parents an email providing all the necessary information

Children bring in books

Tell participants to bring in one or preferably more books leading up to the event- the books should be in good condition

Timetable

Create a timetable if needed to organise when each year group will choose one free book

Setting up books

Set up and books categorise them. We categorised them at my school into groups such as nursery- reception, year 1-year 2, year 3-year 4 and year 5-year 6

Pupils pick one free book

Give pupils the opportunity to browse at all the books and let them pick one. This was the most fun part of the day

Sell left over books

Sell all the remaining books for donations once EVERYONE has received one free book

Leftovers?

Throughout the rest of the week, carry on selling the remaining books for donations. If they just aren't selling then donate them to a library or charity shop

Count up money

Once you are happy that your sale has ended, count up your money and send it off to Voices of Children

Share your story

Please contact us with photos and information on your event and we can add your photos to our gallery and the money you've raised to our Totalometer.
